How to Choose Good Laptops for Graphic Design
It is always a good idea to discuss how to choose a laptop that is suitable for graphic design. Choosing a laptop for graphic design purposes cannot be ‘dirty’ from an electronics store. The reason is, not all laptops on the market can be used to do graphic design work. It takes special specifications to support graphics processing, both images, video and even sound.
Laptops with mediocre specifications cannot be used for such complex work. If forced, maybe they can be used for graphic work, but the work results are not optimal and may take a long time to process even the simplest graphics. This time, we will present tips for designers to choose a laptop that suits their needs.

- Good CPU and RAM
The most important things to consider when choosing a laptop for graphic design are the CPU and RAM. These two specifications seem inseparable from one another. A good CPU and RAM will help significantly with graphics work. Image editing and rendering will be lighter and shorter while using good CPU and RAM.
As a starting point, it’s good that designers consider the Intel Core i5 processor from the latest Intel generation. If you prefer AMD processors, then it’s worth looking into the A8 or A10 series. For the RAM side, you should take a large capacity, at least 8GB, so that the design process is more optimal.
- Good Graphic Card
Graphic cards are usually associated with playing games. However, that is not the only role of the graphics card. A capable graphic card can support graphic design work so that the resulting quality is maximized. When a designer wants to design or paint, of course he wants the software he uses to run more smoothly and be able to handle complex rendering processes. A mid-end quality graphics card can help handle these tasks. Graphics cards that are easy to recommend are the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1050 and AMD Radeon R7.
- Big screen resolution
For designers, laptop screen resolution will support their work. Most laptops on the market have a screen with a resolution of 1366 x 768. This screen is good enough for daily work, such as typing, browsing, email and other casual jobs. However, for graphic design work, this screen dimension is considered very insufficient to display a work of art.
The ideal laptop for this job should be a laptop with a resolution of 1600 x 900, or 1920 x 1080. The screen size should not be neglected either, where a resolution of 15 inches or higher is a good enough screen for designers.
- Big Storage
Choosing a laptop with a large hard disk capacity is one thing that is quite essential. As is generally known, graphic design software, apart from demanding high performance, it also takes up quite a lot of space on disk memory. Call it Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, CorelDRAW, GIMP and many more, are general graphic design software that requires a lot of space on the hard disk. Not only that, the files associated with the software often take up a lot of space on the laptop.
It is recommended for serious designers to have an HDD of 512GB or more to store software and project files. Utilizing an external hard drive might also be an alternative when the laptop hard disk space is no longer sufficient.
